The place may appear humble from the outside and rather easy to miss when you drive around at night, but the chef is always ready to blow your mind and taste buds away. It has a quaint, home-y interior and a very casual, yet intimate feel. It literally feels like going into someone’s house to eat. They have an open kitchen and the Chef ran the place with only 1-2 other people. Everything is halal, meaning there are no alcohol as well. The food selections are amazing. We tried the Brussel Sprouts, Zalouk, and Harissa potatoes for appetizers and shared the Moroccan Chicken Sandwich and Lamb Shank Tangine. The brussel sprouts are made with beef bacon (I have to say, I never knew beef bacon tastes so much like pork bacon). It’s so crispy and flavorful. Zalouk is an eggplant dip, served with pita chips. The pita chips were SO crispy, and the eggplant has a deep smoky flavor to it. The Harissa Potatoes texture were amazing! I hate to say crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, but they were like a buttery crispy cloud. The cook of the chicken for the sandwich is unbelievable. The bread was also buttery and the slaw provided some refreshments and acidity to cut through the richness. I was stuffed by the time we got to the lamb, but it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Fell-off-the-bone tender. The couscous were so good my friend swore it was the best thing she had. The chef also whipped up something off the menu for one of my vegetarian friends, like an orange chicken stir fry with vegs over a bed of couscous. The sauce was phenomenal. It was a pleasant experience because of how personable and involved Chef Omar too in interacting with the guests. Highly appreciate his passion for food

I’ve been to Saffron twice (in 10 days), Omar is extremely creative with food and very resourceful about food history. The first time I went to Saffron, they were out of one of the vegan options so he made me the most delicious off-menu item. I love all the Silk Road inspired food and the stories. Each meal has been an experience!!!

Went for my sister's birthday, they set us up at an amazing long table outdoors for a family-style meal. Chef Omar was informative and funny, explaining not only what the food it was in each course but also the cultural significance behind it. Very delicious, great ambiance, and killer NA drink options.

Every time I eat at Saffron I am blown away by not only the flavors and food, but the hospitality. I’ve been fortunate enough to follow their IG and stay on top of their specials and they do not disappoint! Their prices are extremely affordable and every dish has been amazing. Chef Omar has a way of just popping up at the right time and telling the story of each of these very intentional dishes. His expertise and love for his craft are evident. Also, their selection of N.A. beer, wine and cocktails is amazing. I didn’t even realize there were that many options! Definitely worth the time to stop by. Thanks for the great service and food!

If you’re looking for the best food in Detroit, look no further than Saffron De Twah. We first heard about this gem through Keep Growing Detroit—folks were asked “If you had to take someone to one restaurant in the city, where would it be?” and multiple people pointed us here. After experiencing it for myself, I’m convinced that anyone who didn’t mention it simply hasn’t been yet. I’ve lived in Detroit my whole 27 years, and I can say without hesitation: this is the best food I’ve ever had here. Period. If anyone visits me from out of town, I’m taking them straight from DTW to Saffron De Twah. No stops. No questions. We started with the saffron tomato dip and pita chips—a perfect appetizer. The dip was rich and flavorful, and the pita chips had this special seasoning that made every bite addictive. Then came the Harissa Potatoes, and let me tell you—I eat potatoes every single day. I am serious about my potatoes. These? Hands-down the best potatoes I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and somehow even better with each bite. I was genuinely speechless. For mains, we split the chicken sandwich and the fish sandwich. The chicken sandwich was great—but the fish sandwich? One of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life. I’m still trying to mentally process how something can be that good. Flavor-packed, perfectly cooked, absolutely unforgettable. And beyond the food, the customer service was phenomenal. The man working Friday (6/6)—I wish I caught his name—was so warm and welcoming. He walked us through the entire menu and suggested the fish sandwich, which, honestly, might’ve changed my life. Shoutout to the chef too—they both made sure our food came out quickly since we had an event to attend. Every detail was thoughtful. 10/10 experience. I can’t recommend Saffron De Twah enough. This is the type of place that makes you proud to be from Detroit.

A truly wonderful experience at Saffron De Twah. First time and we elected for the tasting menu - what a treasure! We were able to taste so many delectable dishes - potatoes, brussels, tagines, dessert, and more! We enjoyed cardamon lattes and tea throughout our meal, and it all unfolded into a lovely, rich afternoon. Gratitude to Chef Omar - I will be referring others and making a return when I visit Detroit again!

This place is a GEM! The food is world class at affordable prices, and the service is unmatched. The chef is so knowledgeable and personable, he makes you feel like he has invited you to his home to eat one of the best meals of your life. If you ever have a group of people looking for a night out, I strongly recommend Saffron. I had a group of friends come into town and they did a 5 course chef meal with table service all at an extremely affordable price. Best place in Detroit. Hands down.
